IIt takes a lot of preparation and planning to come up with good ideas to design your new home under a tight budget. The major part is to finalize a budget for your home decoration and then stick to it. Visualize and document your ideas on a piece of paper and improve it many times before finalizing your idea. Discuss with family members to incorporate everyone's requirement else you might have to redo certain things. And that costs money !

First and foremost, understand and believe that you cannot accomplish everything at once. Start with smaller steps and slowly advance to make changes to get to your final plan.

Keep the design idea in mind and work based on it without using shortcuts. For e.g. if you plan to use a contemporary design don't mix and match contemporary with classic and then modern style design ideas. The look and feel is thus not only maintained but further enhanced by keeping design ideas on track.

Don't clutter your rooms with decorative stuff. Decorative items are required to enhance the look but keep enough stuff to give space a consideration. You don't want to have the feeling that there's no room left in the house to keep important stuff.

Accessorize and not glorify. Color, frame, and lighting accessories should be used in balance. Too much of brightness creates a lack of calmness in the house. Balance everything correctly.

If you intend on buying used furniture then paint or stain it to give a fresh look and avoid decay.

Use float room ideas (things placed on the floor) more than fixed room ideas (up on the wall). This gives you the flexibility to re-use things inside the house in other rooms.

Most importantly, if you have the budget get a professional home stager to do a walkthrough and give you ideas. It can be cheaper than an interior designer and still give you the flexibility to do things your way.
